It's also tied as the cheapest 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive we've seen. The enclosed 2.5" hard drive features a 16MB cache and runs at 5000 rpm.

Walmart offers the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500GB Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive, model no. STAA500105, for $49 plus 97 cents for shipping ($0.10/GB). (Free Site-to-Store is also available.) That's tied with our mention from last week as the lowest total price we've seen for any 500GB portable USB 3.0 hard drive. (It's also a current price low by $27.) Sales tax is added where applicable. This drive runs at 5400 rpm and features an 8MB cache.

Seagate Technology Holdings, Inc. has settled its class action lawsuit for alleged false advertisement. According to this settlement notice, anyone who purchased select Seagate hard disc drives at any time between March 22, 2001, and September 26, 2007, is considered a member of the class and can file a claim. With a valid claim, you may receive free backup and recovery software or cash payment equal to 5% of the net amount paid for the hard drive(s).
